Doe Deere’s Story Can Inspire Other Immigrants And The Homeless

Doe Deere was born in Izhevsk, Russia, and came to the United States when she was seventeen. She arrived in New York with her mother and sister, and the city felt a bit overwhelming to her, even though she had always dreamed of coming to America. New York City is much larger than her previous home, and she and her mother and sister struggled to get used to it. And they struggled financially. Her mother had been an accountant in Russia but wasn’t able to transfer her papers to get a new job immediately. So, even though her mother tried to take on cleaning jobs, and Doe Deere began taking care of people’s pets, they still lost their apartment and ended up homeless.

But, that is not the end of the story. At a homeless shelter, Doe Deere began dreaming of becoming a designer and an entrepreneur. She began sketching out designs, and someone took notice of that. A social worker got them connected with the Sanctuary for Families, and the leader of that organization helped Doe Deere get into the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Doe Deere says that she never would have believed when she was homeless, that she would one day be an entrepreneur. But, she is now running her highly successful makeup brand, Lime Crime, which she started in 2008. She is living out her dreams and the American Dream, and she believes that it is important that everyone gets the chance to do that. She believes that immigrants play an important role in society, and she is excited to be an example of that. And she wants to inspire other women to take control of their lives and try to do big things like she has done, no matter what kind of a situation they are in.
